John Sidney McCain III was born in Panama!

I'm sure all of you are aware by now of the infamous emails circulating the dark corners of the internet accusing Barack Obama of everything from being a Muslim, to swearing in on the Koran, to being a one man Al Qaeda sleeper cell. I won't even waste the bandwidth debunking these ridiculous and xenophobic lies, but if you are that gullible and need to be reassured otherwise, click here, here, and here. In addition to the emails, the right-wing blogosphere and talk radio now routinely refers to him by his full name: Barack Hussein Obama, as if this somehow disqualifies him or makes him too dangerous to become president. Recently, it has gotten to the point where one of the official speakers at a rally McCain was appearing at repeatedly referred to Obama by this moniker, which actually means "blessed good" when translated.

Although the fear mongering against Obama has been completely discredited, I did learn some very disturbing facts today about his future opponent. Confidential sources have informed me that John McCain's middle name is actually "Sidney" and that he was born in PANAMA!!!! Yes, it's true. I nearly fell out of my chair in disbelief when I learned the shocking news.

***Sarcasm Alert On*** Is it any wonder Sidney McCain from Panama is against a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and for letting all those illegal foreigners have amnesty??? How do we know Sidney isn't a sleeper cell for Manuel Noriega or for those guys from Qu-eer Eye for the Straight Guy for that matter?***Sarcasm Alert Off*** And by the way, isn't it unconstitutional for a person born outside the United States to even become president? Otherwise, wouldn't The Governator be the likely GOP nominee?

Of course I'm not surprised that the mainstream media chooses to ignore these facts, but how can the all knowing blogosphere not have ferreted out this crucial bit of information already, flooded email boxes, and made it known to the entire internet community? The American public deserves to know the truth! Otherwise, we just might end up electing Sidney McCain that crazy old belligerent Panamanian with the girly sounding name!

In the interests of full disclosure, and in order to get the facts out there to as many people as possible, I propose from now on we refer to Mr. 100 years in Iraq by the name God intended him to have at birth: "John Sidney McCain the 3rd" or just "Sidney McCain" for short. Better yet, we should call him "Sidney McCain-Bush" since it seems Poppy Bush has now officially adopted him and he's been welcomed into the family with open arms by little bro GW.
So, do we a want president whose name means "good" or do we want a president who shares a name with the character played by Jennifer Garner on the hit TV show Alias??? The choice is yours America! Feel free to pass on this article on to as many people as possible and warn everyone before it is too late!

New generation grassroots political editorial and social network gathers attention

As sparks continue to fly on the political stage during this eventful primary season, the cyber world of the pundit blogosphere is pulsing with activity following every debate, election and every piece of gossip. In the past two years, the politicized internet has been dominated by blog sites such as Dailykos.com, popular with the Liberal crowd, and Townhall.com which serves the needs of the Conservative blogger. Other large budget news blogs such as Politico.com and Huffingtonpost.com also cast a long shadow over their share of the blogosphere.

It is in this shadow that a small but tenacious grassroots blog seeks to stake a claim. Polzoo.com bills itself as ‘a social networking center for political participation, debate and action’. Despite a long winded and seemingly banal self-description, the site itself actually offers quite a bit of entertainment for your average political junkie. Launched in early February of 2008, owner Frederick Kuo envisioned a non-partisan site where bloggers of all stripes and colors can come together to discuss and debate issues. “I wanted to combine the traditional online political editorial and blog with the functions of myspace”, says Kuo, a local Sacramento crepe shop owner, enthusiastically of the project. Despite only being in operation for a mere three weeks, Polzoo already has a group of regular contributors who act as featured columnists on the front page. True to form, the political affiliations are divided evenly between three liberals, three conservatives and one independent. The featured columnists were hand picked from the blogosphere by Kuo who reveals, “I was looking for columnists who represented the average joe, rather than those who already had connections… and they also needed to be passionate”. And passionate they are, already some blogs have generated fiery reactions from other members. In response to a liberal columnist who writes that adherence to diversity was what historically made America great, a conservative member argues the opposite and charges “and the Liberals keep fiddling while Rome burns… they were the ones who let the Huns in”.

Free advertising for social causes

In addition to being a full fledged grassroots political blog and social networking site, Polzoo has also begun a program to help non-profit organizations by permanently giving free advertising on the front page for a different cause on a weekly basis. “My goal was to use this site not only to spur political thought and debate, but also to allow important social issues of our day to gain greater exposure”, says Kuo of the Polzoo non-profit organization program. Although clearly, no organization has yet to apply, the program statement advises organizations to submit their banners to be featured and to create a blog detailing the importance of the cause they are involved in.

Navigating throughout the site, I found the setup intuitive and easy to use. However, it is clear that as a young site, there are still a few kinks here and there to work out. The profile function could be refined a bit more in order to create an easier flow for those who want to surf portfolios. The private messaging system is not very intuitive, and could be integrated better with the community database. I am told, however, that these bugs are to be worked out in the coming months as the site continues to grow. “I am focusing on providing quality content and substance first, and then everything will come together”, asserts Kuo confidently on the direction of the site.

So have you had your ‘Polzoo’ today? Perhaps not, but as interest in this grassroots political site grows, growing numbers of individuals will increasingly have Polzoo with their morning coffee.

Time for Hillary to Go

Time for Hillary to Go

Hillary needs to bow out. The time has come. Her campaign has suddenly went from depressing to ridiculous. The recent smear tactic used by her campaign in delivering a photo of Obama dressed in Muslim gear simply stinks of desperation. Her Oscar winning act the other day, indignantly yelling with her shrill voice, "Shame on you Barack Obama!" looked like an overdramatic tirade of an attention whore. Considering how hurt she was, and the allegations that Obama was employing Rove tactics, you would suspect she was referring to something very substantive. It is difficult to imagine that someone so versed in political attacks, would be so outraged by routine political mailings that simply criticized her policy stands.

It is really time for the Clintons to end their campaign. They have no chance of winning. Every new poll shows Obama closing the gap in Texas and Ohio, and some even show Obama overtaking Hillary in Texas. In order for Hillary to even have a slim chance of winning this election, she would need to win Texas and Ohio decisively, generate a tsunami of momentum and excitement of her campaign within days, and have Obama come out in public declaring that he is the long lost cousin of Osama Bin Laden. In other words, unless we are no longer on planet Earth, she does not have a chance.

The longer the Clintons stay in this race, and the more negative their campaign becomes, the more tarnished the political goodwill towards them would be in the Democratic camp. If Hillary was to bow out gracefully and endorse Obama for president, she would appear classy and selfless. If Obama was to lose the general election, Hillary would've set herself up for a strong campaign in 2012. However, by going negative, the Clintons do not smear Obama, but smear their own campaign, public opinion of themselves, and their own political legacies.

Hillary, get some class, it's time for you to go.

I think its pretty interesting that the US has thrown its full weight into supporting the independence of Kosovo, but still does nothing to help Palestine gain independence.

I think the Kosovans deserve their indepedence. They were mistreated by the Serbs, and were subject to attempted genocide. This is one of the issues where I support the US govt. But I have to wonder why it's ok that Kosovo gets independence, but when it comes to the Palestinians, the US just doesnt care?

Israel has been conducting a policy of ethnic cleansing on the territories for decades. I mean, the entire country of Israel was Palestine, the whole existance of Israel is based on ethnic cleansing. So why can't Palestinians have their own state yet? Why is it that there is one standard for one country and another for the other?

Maybe if the Serbians had a strong lobby in the Washington, Kosovo would never have seen the day of its freedom. Just a thought.

Why a flat tax is inherently unjust

Why a flat tax is inherently unjust: Fair tax is 'no fair'

Posted by CenterLeftLiberal in myblogHuckabeeDemocratic Primary

CenterLeftLiberal

While reading through the economic policy proposals by Mike Huckabee, I came across the statement that a flat tax, unlike a progressive income tax, would not punish people for working hard. At first sight, but only upon first sight, does that seem plausiable. There are good reasons why the vast majority economists endorse a progressive income tax structure and would disagree with Mr. Huckabee's take on social justice and taxation. Here are three (note that there are more reasons, some of which may well be more compelling than those below) why the assertion that a progressive income tax punishes people for working hard is misleading and, quite frankly, nonsensical:

  1. Hard work and material prosperity do not always go hand in hand. Even the prominent libertarian Friedrich van Hayek realized that the distribution of rewards in capitalism is not always just. Thus, we need to consider that the rich are not rich merely because they work harder; many do work hard, but coincidences - meeting the right people at the right time - as well as connections and inherited privilege play a huge role.
  2. Even assuming, for simplicity's sake, that hard work always translates into increased material well-being, progressive taxation does not punish those who work hard. All it does, is distribute the tax burden equally, where everyone gets hit as hard as everyone else with the cost of maintaining society. Under progressive taxation, the marginal gains made by a hard working person who accumulates considerable material wealth do not diminish. He or she gets hit as hard with the cost of maintaining society as a working class or poor person.
  3. But doesn't a flat tax and not a progressive tax structure distribute the burden equally? No. Suppose you have two people: John who makes $35,000 and Jody who makes $800,000 per year. Suppose we institute a flat tax of 20%. John will pay $7,000 and Jody $160,000 in taxes. Afterwards, John is left with $28,000 and Jody with $640,000. Now the question who was hit harder, $7,000 is a large sum of money for John, whereas Jody is still left with a large, large net income, even after paying $160,000 in taxes. True, both paid the same percentage, but John was hit much, much harder by the tax than Jody. Paying 20% of his income in taxes is mighty painful for John, but not for Jody, because her income is so much higher.

The above is of course a simplified and condensed argument, but I think it gives an idea of why progressive taxation and not a flat tax is the truly just way to distribute the burden of society. After all, even Adam Smith himself stated that "The rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more in proportion."

Fiscally Reckless: The Bush Legacy

Fiscally Reckless: The Bush Legacy

Posted by CenterLeftLiberal in Untagged

CenterLeftLiberal

Recently the Bush administration announced that the Budget deficit has hit a four year low. Hopefully the public will remember that in 2001, after four balanced budgets, the Congressional Budget Committee predicted $5.6 trillion in surpluses for the time span between 2003 and 2014. Yet, the Bush administration has ignored the majority of economists, including the ten Nobel price laureates who sent a letter to the Mr. Bush urging him to abstain from cutting taxes (see my post called economist's statement opposing Bush tax cuts in order to read the letter). The fiscal recklessness of this administration is amazing, especially when considering the opportunity cost. The $1.2 trillion spent on cutting taxes of the very rich is just the latest example.

The tax cuts were supposed to spur growth but haven't. As a matter of fact, a recent analysis by the Economic Policy Institute (a centrist think tank) showed that economic growth for the 2001 to 2005 business cycle remained well below the average for past business cycles:
  • GDP growth was 17% below average
  • GDI (Gross Domestic Income) growth was 36% below average
  • Job creation was 28.5% below average
  • Increase in salaries was 56% below average
The author concludes that "A review of economic performance over the last four-and-a-half years indicated that the series of major tax cuts... have not strengthened the economy. Almost every broad measure of economic activity... has fared worse over the last four-and-a-half years than in past business cycles."
Let me be blunt: We've wasted $1.2 trillion! Yet, our infrastructure is in need of $1.6 trillion overhaul, we continue to have the highest poverty rate in developed world, according to the UN, and the Iraq quagmire is going to cost us an estimated $2.6 trillion. That is not to mention the tremendous cost that is going to come from baby-boomers cashing their social security checks.

The opportunity cost of not spending these $1.2 trillion on social services or infrastructure is even more outrageous. If we had used these funds to repair our failing infrastructure (given a D by the American Society of Civil Engineers) we would have experienced an upward cycle of prosperity. A better infrastructure encouraged economic growth, generating more tax revenue. Additional tax revenue can then be put into the education sector creating a more educated populous, able to make wiser policy decisions, appreciate culture and be more productive. This in turn would have created yet more growth and more revenue, available for investment in social services.
The opportunity cost of having wasted $1.2 trillion on the rich, instead of having invested these funds in social services and infrastructure is absurdly reckless.

GOP vs. Fairness and Common Sense

GOP vs. Fairness & Common Sense

Posted by CenterLeftLiberal in Untagged

CenterLeftLiberal
The Republican Party exhibits an incredible disregard for the concept of fairness and justice these days. Case in point: California's budget deficit. As if it wasn't enough that they got Democrats to agree to cutting social services, rather than increasing taxes on the rich (those making $1 million/yr. or more), they have blocked a bill in the state assembly that would have closed a loophole in the state sales tax on luxury yachts and super high-end conspicuous consumption. In other words, California's Republicans favor burdening children, the sick and the elderly with the burden of the current deficit rather than the super-rich. Why tax the conspicuous consumption of multi-millionaires when you can deprive children of a better education and health care? At this point I am going to seriously question the moral judgment of these lawmakers, for it seems that common sense and the concept of fairness elude these Republican lawmakers (note that some GOP assemblymen did vote in favor of closing tax loopholes). I hope these lawmakers recognize that the super-rich are better suited to carry the burden of a fiscal deficit than children and the sick; that taxing conspicuous consumption is better than cutting education and health care.

Why intellectuals are liberals

Posted by CenterLeftLiberal in Untagged

CenterLeftLiberal

Recent publications have once more revived the debate of "liberal academia." As a liberal, raised in an intelligentsia background and a student of Political-Economy, I will not refute claims that modern liberalism is the most prominent ideology among established and aspiring scholars nationwide. A recent study, for example, found that conservatives comprise less than 10% of social science and humanities professors.

Conservatives like to believe that this liberal dominance is the result of discrimination - a claim clearly contradicted by the remarkable success of many conservative scholars, such as Samuel P. Huntington.

Ignored, however, is the most obvious and logical explanation: the more profound one's knowledge of society the more likely one is to embrace liberalism. People arrive at their political viewpoint through a process of learning and understanding. The political ideology of scholars is the result of vigorous thought, not a conspiracy geared towards silencing conservatives.

Intellectuals understand the flawed nature of some of the basic assumptions of conservatism. Traditional conservatism, for example, assumes that the social order is so fragile that strict borders, laws enfrocing public opinion and the such are required. Yet, Emile Durkheim, the founding father of sociology, clearly showed that modern society is anything but fragile. As all individuals depend upon one another in an advanced and specialized society, the social order become stable enough to support immense diversity and cultural pluralism. Social scientists understand this and, therefore, mostly reject traditional conservatism.
I do not intent to bash conservatism, as I am fully aware that conservatives have the best of intentions and arrived at their conclusions through using reason. I am merely pointing to the most obvious explanation, provocative as it may be.

More Evidence that taxing the Rich doesn't stunt growth

Tax & grow: More evidence that taxing the rich doesn't stunt growth

Posted by CenterLeftLiberal in Untagged

CenterLeftLiberal

So, high taxes on the rich bring economic growth to a grinding halt, or at least slow it down considerably, while a decrease will spur growth. I have written on that topic before; indeed two of my last three publications and several of my blog entries have been on the topic. Not only have Scandinavia and Ireland seen as much growth as the U.S. in recent years (graph 2), but the U.S. saw its strongest growth rates when top tax rates were at their highest level - in the 50s & 60s (graph 1). Today consensus is that the Reagan tax cuts did not spur enough growth to pay for them (not even close), while the Bush cuts just plainly failed to considerably affect growth rates (cutting an already low rate isn't going to have much of an effect); simply wasting more than $1.2 trillion so far.

Growth in the U.S. (blue) & top marginal tax rate (pink), between 1950 and 2005.

GDP growth in high tax countries and post-Bush tax cut America.

Did I mention that the top percentile's share of net (after-tax) income is now twice as high as in 1979? (see graph 3 for their share of gross, not net income) Consensus among economists is that they did not "earn" that money through hard work - even libertarian economist Friedrich Van Hayek stated that rewards, i.e. income, "are not distributed according to any recognizable principle of justice" (there is of course some correlation between work, education & earnings, but not regarding the the vast and growing gap between the top 1% and bottom 99% - which includes the hardest working and best educated workers who are falling behind the rich as well). It's bad news for democracy too, since it marks the accumulation of power in the hands of a few. And then there's that beautiful $1.2 trillion price tag! According to a recent New York Times article, $1.2 trillion could have allowed us to double cancer research funding, rebuilt New Orleans, help stop the genocide in Dafur, implement a universal pre-school program and still have funds left over. But that's not going to happen - no, instead Bush decided that the rich are in need of a government handout.

Why Obama will make America a global leader again

http://polzoo.com/index.php?option=com_myblog&show=Why-Obama-will-make-America-a-global-leader-again.html&Itemid=41

As I watched tonight's debate between Obama and Clinton, one issue that raised my level of interest was the differing approaches that the two candidates had towards talks with Cuba. Clinton laid out a long series of preconditions that Cuba had to meet in order to earn a meeting with her, which essentially maintained the status quo. While Obama declared, and reconfirmed, his previous statement of his willingness to meet with Cuba, as well as the leaders of other states such as Iran and North Korea, without preconditions. I think this is one policy difference that is critical and truly differentiates Obama from Clinton, and certainly from McCain, or any other mainstream candidate, aside from the likes of Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich.

Over the past few years, I have grown increasingly concerned with the direction of our nation's foreign policy. I think it is absolutely absurd how the Bush administration has consistently refused to hold basic lines of communication open with states such as Iran, North Korea and the Hamas led government of the Palestinian Authorities. It is no wonder that we have seen little to no progress in these areas and issues of concern. What is truly disconcerting is the level of demonization that has become routine in our politics, that to even entertain communicating with these countries, would be considered selling out our national interests. There is absolutely nothing further from the truth. First of all, while human rights has consistently been used as a bar to judge whether we should speak to nations such as Iran or Cuba, it is a highly inconsistent bar. I will assert now that I do not believe for one second that US foreign policy decisions are concerned with human rights, designed to promote human rights, or based on the human rights situations of the nations or regions in question. Neither are the foreign policy decisions of France, China, the United Kingdom, Russia, Iran, or Cuba. The vast majority of nations on this earth, with the exception of small inconsequential states, do not, can not, and should not base their foreign policy decisions on human rights. Nations operate on the basis of national interest, and not on human rights. If US foreign policy decisions were made with the issue of human rights as a defining factor, the US would not be maintaining amiable relations with states such as Saudi Arabia, or supporting the dictatorship of Mubarek in Egypt, or supporting Israeli policies which denigrate the basic human rights of Palestinians. It is precisely because of these appalling hypocrisies that the condemnations issued by the Bush administration against states such as Cuba or North Korea fall on deaf ears. It is precisely because of these hypocrisies that anti-American sentiment is at an all time high in many regions throughout the world. It is important for Americans to understand these fallacies instead of living in an imaginary, self-righteous world.

True, the United States is a great nation full of freedoms and opportunity. There is no doubt that the rights and liberties enjoyed by the average American citizen is envied by many across the world. But the domestic importance of human rights is not translated into our foreign policy. Neither am I arguing that they should be. The cornerstone of every nation's foreign policy should be that nation's national interests. Human Rights and other lofty ideals are only used as a cloak to justify policies. However, I think it is time to stop the childish and petty practice of demonizing other nations to the extent that we cannot even talk with them. Obama is very clear on this, and this is a primary reason why I support him. If Obama becomes president, he will be willing to meet without preconditions, the leaders of Iran, North Korea, Cuba and a host of many other countries. This attitude will bring a breathe of fresh air and will produce great progress in how America views the world, and how these countries view America. The past 8 years, we have seen the Bush administration maintain a foreign policy which has made America appear arrogant, patronizing and close minded. Obama will present a face of America to the world that says, "We may not agree with you, but we are willing to talk to you". It will be an America that is confident, that is open and is a leader.

Great changes are in the air. If Obama travels to Cuba, the change will be revolutionary. Obama will be welcomed wherever he goes, because many of these countries are willing to establish normal ties with the US but have never been given the opportunity. Obama will open the door to Cuba, and will create the possibility of change. When America is no longer seen as a threatening force that seeks to destabilize and destroy the existence of the Cuban government, they will have the incentive and security to begin implementing reforms. With small reforms, great changes will become possible. Obama will end the 50 year old failed policy of the Cuba Embargo, which was based on enormous hypocrisy and denial of reality to begin with. The Cuban government in existence today, although not perfect, is ironically far more dedicated to human rights than the Batista regime that preceded it. A regime that was supported by the United States. I predict when Obama travels to Tehran to meet Iran's leadership, he will be welcomed with great fanfare and the entire nation of Iran will make sure not to waste such as a grand opportunity. Obama will open the door on cooperation and friendship that was always there, but locked shut by the stubborn ignorance and arrogance of the Bush administration. When Obama travels to North Korea, he will end the Black and White worldview of the Bush administration and create the opportunity to prod that state into economic reforms that will eventually introduce the seeds of economic opportunity and social change that will dramatically revolutionize that country's society as they did for it's neighbor, China.

When Obama represents the United States in speaking and communicating with nations that are deemed "enemies", Obama is representing an America that can again act like a great leader on the world stage. Under the Bush administration, America refused to speak to others unless they fulfilled narrow and impossible conditions that gave absolutely no room for negotiation or face. America placed itself on a self-righteous pedestal that merely perched on a tower of hypocrisy based on foreign policy contradictions that was so obvious and plain to the rest of the world. It was an America that was petty, insular, small minded. What Obama brings to the table is something that no amount of Washington foreign policy "experience" can ever bring. It is his own life experience growing up in a foreign country, being a minority and coming from a multiracial background. It is an experience that has given him a unique insight into how other nations in the world might view America, rather than simply being limited to how Americans view America. This difference is key, because it allows Obama to build that bridge of understanding even with states that practice policies diametrically opposed to our democratic traditions. This understanding is not appeasement, neither is it tolerance of human rights abuses. This bridge of communication opens a door for influence and the possibility of breaking barriers in order to effect greater change without putting these nations on the defensive. In this way, America will again act as a great leader on the global stage. A leader that is magnanimous, self-confident and understanding. When America acts in this way, many great changes are possible. I believe out of the three remaining candidates, Obama is the only one qualified and only one capable of bringing about these changes.

Let's Get Ready to RRRRUMBLE!!! (Texas Edition)

Let's Get Ready to RRRUMBLE! (Texas Edition)

Vox Populi

Well, it looks like another victory for Barack Obama today in overwhelming fashion, so what else is new? For those of you keeping score at home, this now makes it 11 wins for Obama and 0 for Hillary since Super Tuesday. In other words, she's got him right where she wants him.

By winning all those meaningless caucuses and small potatoes primaries, Obama gets lulled into a false sense of security, thinking he can just plagiarize at will and shamelessly get people's hopes up. Meanwhile, Hillary cunningly lies in wait, like a tensed cheetah ready to pounce! Sublimely snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in Texas and Ohio. No less a political genius than Rudy Giuliani himself could have drawn it up any better.

But seriously folks, it's gonna take a minor miracle for Hillary to win the nomination now and she knows this. A desperate Hillary is a dangerous Hillary. She will not be afraid to get her hands dirty slinging a little mud at Obama. It's not a question of if she will go negative, but just how negative she will be willing to go. The next two debates could get ugly. With this in mind, here are some questions to ponder while watching debate #136 of the primary season tonight.

How far will Hillary go in attacking Obama? Will she stick to outlining policy differences, or resort to personal attacks? Will she hold back for fear of further damaging the Clinton's legacy and eroding any goodwill left towards them, or unleash everything but the kitchen sink at Obama? Specifically, will she bring up the "slum landlord" accusations again, rehash the plagiarism charges that got no traction in Wisconsin, or is she desperate enough to suggest past drug use or use the race card?

How will Obama respond? Will he try to stay above it all, or will he respond in kind to personal attacks? Can she goad him into losing his cool?

Will Hillary invoke the specter of another terrorist attack and the associated fear mongering? Will Obama be able to respond effectively to charges he isn't "ready on day one"?

Will the real differences in their health care plans finally be spelled out in detail? Hillary would have you belive that Obama's health care plan leaves 15 million people uninsured and her plan provides universal coverage. In reality, everyone who wants health insurance under Obama's plan would have the opportunity to buy it. Only those adults who choose not to buy coverage would remain uninsured. By contrast, Hillary's plan would require everyone to buy health insurance whether they wanted it or not. You can have a legitimate debate over the merits of forcing people to buy health insurance, who don't want it, but it is dishonest to suggest that Obama's plan leaves out anyone who wants to buy health insurance, but can't. Will Obama finally drive home this point? Will Hillary answer as to how she would enforce her health insurance mandate? Would she garnish the wages of those who don't buy into her plan?

How overt an appeal will Hillary make to women voters? Once again, she'll probably make the argument that electing her President, as a woman, is a big change in and of itself, but can she elaborate any further on why electing someone with a uterus is such a big change by itself?

How much will either candidate reach out to Latino voters? Will Obama drive home the fact that he supports giving driver's licenses to undocumented workers, as a matter of public safety, and Hillary waffled on the issue before taking the more politically expedient postion against it?

Will Hillary's "makin' change for 35 years" claim, ever be challenged by Obama or the moderators? This would mean she has been "makin' change" continuously since she was 25 years old.

How much attention, if any, will be devoted to John McCain's lobbyist scandal and will either candidate take any shots at him?

Will Hillary be asked if she will drop out if she doesn't win both Texas and Ohio and will she give a straightforward answer?

Stay tuned for the answers to these burning questions and my debate postmortem tomorrow.

Barrack Obama is an Intelligent eloquent speaker. He is positive, uplifting and full of hope and change. He sees a new way for the country and in his speeches we hear about hope change change hope hope future change hope hope change bad corperations yeah big government hope change raise taxes free government services for everyone hope change future and most importantly HOPE and CHANGE for the future. You have just read all vital parts of his speeches. Now what does it mean? Anyone know? Change to what? He has campaigned for the last six months and said absolutely nothing about what he wants to do. What little detail he has given sounds like the same liberal programs that were supposed to solve all the problems people are complaining about years ago.

Why do we know so little about a man seeking the most powerful office in the world. No one new who he was three years ago. A state legislator who as Hillary points out voted present on all controversial bills. He has one bill recently introduced in the senate, a bill that is being pushed through committe without debate. Why, because most people will probably not like the idea of providing .7 percent of our GDP to Africa. This is on top of our foreign aid budget worth billions of dallars every year. The fact is he can't have the many people swooning in the aisles actually wake up and look at Senator Obama for the liberal he really is and where he really wants to take the country.

Senator Obama like all other liberals wants to put government in charge of every aspect of our lives through national healthcare, government education, national pension plans (John Edwards goofed and let that one slip out), limit free speech via the "Fairness Doctrine" and controlling our energy use. This will ensure that they can control every major decision in our lives from cradle to grave. They will be able to do this because taxes will be so high to pay for these programs that everyone will be forced into the programs. If you are already rich you will be fine as you will be the new aristocracy and still have private healthcare, schools and will be running the show, we just won't know about it. An added benefit for those already rich is it will be impossible for anyone else to become rich as goverment regulations on new business will prevent that from happening. The rich will stay rich and it's the government run programs for everyone else.

Senator Obama and his fellow liberals want us to be just like the enlightened Europeans. I lived in England for three years and spent time in Germany and their standard of living is well below ours. The average poor person in this country has more living space and modern conveniences than the middle class in Europe. Senator Obama wants everyone to be equal economically and if that means everyone is miserable that is fine as long as long as everyone is equally miserable. This is a fine philosophy for rich liberals who know they will not have to participate in the programs they advocate, but at least they will feel good about providing us basic neccessities. Sorry but I don't want any part of it. It is time for Senator Obama and his fellow liberals to tell the truth about the change they have in mind for this country.

It is time for Americans to wake out of their slumber and see what made this a great, prosperous and the most generous country in history. It was built on Freedom, ingenuity, hard work, innovation, self reliance and the belief in God, family and country. The Change that Senator Obama Hopes to implement will destroy this country economically and make it a weak, unproductive and useless society just like Europe. If this happens the world will be worse off for it and everyone will suffer except the rich liberals in charge, but they least they will feel good about themselves.

The Fall of the House of Clinton

Vox Populi

Hillary Clinton has fallen, and she can't get up. It's been one disastrous event after another lately for the once "inevitable" Democratic nominee. To recap, since the so-called tie on Super Tuesday, she's suffered eight straight caucus and primary defeats. She ponied up a $5 million loan to keep her campaign afloat. Her campaign manager and deputy campaign manager both left. Reports have surfaced of bickering and infighting among other staff members, and super delegates are abandoning ship. To add insult to injury, Barack Obama beats out Slick Willy at the Grammy Awards too. A contest even Jesse Jackson didn't win, to the best of my knowledge. It's been a bad week and a half for Hillary, to say the least.

Her problems are not unrelated and have built upon each other in a downward spiral. For a candidate who trumpets the fiscal policies and budget surpluses during her hubby's administration, she sure has been bad at budgeting money when it comes to her own presidential campaign. After raising a colossal $100 million plus last year, she blows most of her wad in Iowa for a third place finish and, as a result, is forced to raid the family piggy bank for the $5 million loan. Campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle is sacked in the aftermath and deputy manager Mark Henry follows her out the door shortly afterwards. Henry is the guy who wrote a memo advising her not to compete in Iowa, foreseeing her defeat there. If she would have followed this advice, perhaps she still would have some of that $100 million left to play with. It sure could have come in handy in building an organization in all the subsequent states she lost big in. Instead, she heeds the advice of 4.3 million dollar man, Mark Penn, and embraces the mantle of inevitability. Team Hillary drinks their own Kool-Aid and doesn't even bother opening campaign offices in any states past Super Tuesday, arrogantly thinking they will have the nomination, nee coronation, wrapped up by then. From my firsthand observation in a caucus state, I can tell you that Barack Obama's staff and volunteers were well organized and extremely motivated. By contrast, Hillary's supporters showed up on caucus day, but a staff presence and organizing efforts beforehand were non-existent, as far as I could tell. Is it any wonder then that Obama has been able to easily sweep eight straight contests?

The manner in which Hillary has so dismissively explained away Obama's victories is further evidence of her arrogance towards the electorate. Apparently, only the states she wins in really count. South Carolina didn't matter because Jesse Jackson won there, and all those caucus victories Obama racked up didn't count either because we all know caucuses are fundametally undemocratic shams. Since Obama's Potomac PRIMARY sweep, she has resorted to simply ignoring the election results. This was evident in her speech that night where she failed to even acknowledge the day's elections or to congratulate the victor. It's as if she is now living in an isolated bubble where, not unlike our current president, bad news does not exist, the insurgency campaign of Barack Obama is in its final throes, and it'll soon be mission accomplished as Hillary surges to victory in Texas and Ohio.

Speaking of Texas, Hillary seems to have taken a page out of the Rudy Giuliani playbook. Choosing to ignore primaries next Tuesday in Wisconsin and Hawaii, and instead, in her "bring 'em on!" moment, challenges  Obama to "meet me in Texas!" And she is adopting this strategy because it worked so well for Rudy in Florida, I suppose? How fitting that Texas, home of the Alamo, is where Hillary has decided to make her last stand.

Despite all the troubles I've outlined above, it would be premature to hammer the final nail in the coffin of Hillary's presidential ambitions just yet. The polls in Wisconsin show Hillary within 4 points of Obama and it is conceivable she could still pull out a win there. The primary calendar also becomes more favorable to Hillary after next Tuesday. Obama is closing fast, but still has a lot of ground to make up in Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, where polls show her with a sizeable lead, particularly in the latter two states. Clearly, the pressure is now on Hillary to win big in all three states in order to stay alive. Even if she sweeps these states, Obama will still probably end up with more pledged delegates at the convention. If this happens, look for the majority of super delegates to get behind him as well and Hillary's lead among them to evaporate. I highly doubt super delegates will risk going against the will of the voters and back Hillary over a candidate who can attract and inspire as broad and diverse a coalition as Obama can. Obama is in a strong position, but don't count Hillary out. As the Clintons have shown in the past, they have more lives than Rasputin.

In latebreaking news, Hillary has now officially won New Mexico, even though caucus states don't really count. I don't think this exactly counts towards snapping her losing streak, however, seeing as how the election was actually held 11 days ago.
